Welcome to the Mogul resource/help center! Here you can find a detailed guide to Mogul's features so you can get the most from the app.

## What is a Personal CRM?

A personal CRM is a tool that helps you manage your network. Managing your network and mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people, but at the core it means

1. Keeping track of the people you meet 
2. Keeping track of the interactions you’ve had
3. Reminding you to reach out / follow up with these people

## Why do I need one?

Because our memory isn't good enough to remember everything, especially the little details.

**Do you remember the names of all of your co-workers' children?** Probably not 😂  But a personal CRM can!

## Who should use Mogul?

If you've developed your own system to remember the people in your life and the interactions you've had with them (like a spreadsheet) and want to go a step further, Mogul is a good fit for you.

If you want to be more thoughtful about other people (generous, punctual, putting them first, etc...) then Mogul is a good fit for you.

If you want to make people say "wow I can't believe you remembered that" every time you see them, Mogul is a good fit for you.

## Why should I use it over Excel/Google Sheet/Airtable, etc...

Those are great! The difference between Mogul and these systems is that Mogul was **built specifically for the job.** These tools can't provide the same tailored experience (and certain features) that Mogul can because they need to cater to so many different other use cases.\
\
With Mogul, you won't have to do any "workarounds" or "hacks" to get features like email reminders to work with your system. A better experience = better results.

# Getting Started 😍

Mogul is a very simple but powerful application. Here are some of the basics to get you started!

## Adding People

You can create a person by clicking the "Create Person" button at the top right of the "All People"'s page as well as any group pages. 

If you create a person from a group page, it will auto add this person to the that group.

## Importing People

If you are coming from an existing spreadsheet or have data you want to bring over, Mogul supports 2 types of data importing at the moment:

1. CSV Import
2. iOS Import
3. Google Contacts importing (coming soon)

If you want to import via CSV you can do so by going to [**Settings**](https://app.mogulnetworking.com/account) and scrolling down to the "Data Import & Cleaning" and then clicking the "CSV Import (beta)" Get Started button.

## Creating Groups

Groups are a great way to organize your people into well... different groups! 

Groups can be created and managed on both the web and iOS apps.

You can create a group by clicking the "+" button located on the left hand sidebar of the Mogul web app. You'll be prompted to give your group a name and optionally you can give it an emoji icon as well.

## Creating Reminders

Reminders are a great way to keep yourself accountable and remember to always follow up with people. Mogul supports 2 types of reminders:

1. One-time reminders
2. Recurring reminders

Recurring reminders are great if you want to remember to follow up with somebody every few weeks or months. 

You can create reminders 2 ways

1. Going to the [Reminders Tab](https://app.mogulnetworking.com/reminders) and then clicking "New Reminder"

2\. Going to a specific person and clicking "New Item" -> "New Reminder" at the top right

# End to End Encryption

Aside form Mogul's beautiful interface, our End-to-End Encryption is what really sets us apart form the competition. So what exactly is it?

## What is End-to-End Encryption

Mogul is the **only** app on the market that supports this privacy feature. 

End-to-End encryption is the highest level of data privacy available and we are the only ones in the space that offer this. 

It is a form of [privacy so strong it could soon be illegal](https://www.pcmag.com/news/gop-senators-try-to-cripple-end-to-end-encryption-with-new-bill). You own your data, not us. Even if we got hacked, the hackers would get nothing but encrypted data (which they would not be able to decipher).

> The main advantage of end-to-end encryption is its restriction of transmitted data from anyone but the recipient. It is as if when you mailed a letter you put it in a box that was physically impossible to open — immune to any sledgehammer, saw, lockpick, and so forth — except by the addressee. End-to-end encryption ensures the privacy of your communication. ([Kaspersky Lab](https://usa.kaspersky.com/blog/what-is-end-to-end-encryption/23288/))

## Why does nobody else have this?

Because it is very expensive and was a pain in the ass to implement. 

But I think it's worth it for the improved user privacy. 

## How do I enable this? What are the drawbacks?

E2EE is not enabled by default. I've made it opt-in (and opt-out) and because there are drawbacks that come with this increased privacy. I want users to have the choice between privacy and convenience, rather than choose for them. Here are the main drawbacks:

1\. Your data is encrypted with a password that you choose and if you lose this password then you cannot recover your data. (most important)\
\
2\. Push notifications will become generic and not reveal content. **You can always opt-out of E2E anytime**\
\
3\. There is a performance hit involved in encrypting and decrypting data. This is about **1-2 ms** per field, per person.\
\
Example: If you have 1,000 people and 5 fields per person then you can expect a 5-10 seconds performance hit (1,000 x 5 x (1 to 2)) when it comes to initial loading of the page. The more data you add, the more of a performance hit you take.

If these drawbacks are worth it for the increased privacy, then you can enable E2EE through the [Settings page](https://app.mogulnetworking.com/account).

You'll be prompted to choose an Encryption Password that will be used for you to unlock your data on other devices.

If you lose this password, we cannot recover it for you. You will have to delete all encrypted data from your account

We then encrypt your data and you'll now see a message at the bottom left "E2E Encryption Enabled" that indicates your encryption status.

You can change your encryption password or opt-out at any time by visiting the Settings page and scrolling down to the End to End Encryption section.

## "End to End Encryption is disabled" how do I re-enable it?

If you are on a new device and E2EE is enabled on your account, you will need to re-enter your encryption password to verify that device. Your data should look like this if it is encrypted and you have not verified the device:

To verify he device, simply go to the Settings page and click "Enter your encryption password to re-enable E2E". Once you do so, the page should refresh and your data should be decrypted.

## I'm technical and want to see how you've implemented this

Absolutely!

So I (Chris, Mogul developer) tried to implement it myself from scratch and realized I was way in over my head. So I now pay for this service called [Virgil Security](https://virgilsecurity.com/) that handles all of the heavy aspects of End to End Encryption. Specifically, I'm using their E3Kit service. You can read more about how it works [here](https://developer.virgilsecurity.com/docs/e3kit/fundamentals/end-to-end-encryption/). 

Curious about how they handle private keys? I was too. In terms of private key, Virgil does store the private key on a server but it is encrypted with a user-generated password. This allows for multi-device support. You can read more about that [here](https://help.virgilsecurity.com/en/articles/1684511-does-virgil-security-control-the-end-users-private-keys).

If you enable this feature on your Mogul account, nothing in plaintext hits my servers. The only data that isn't encrypted are ID's (these are random and unique strings to identify data), booleans and any dates. At the moment, images (for avatars) are also not encrypted but it is on the roadmap.

## Something went wrong

E2EE is a very complicated feature and has gone through a very long beta process before we rolled it out. Hover, things could still go wrong.&#x20;

# iOS App

Access the most important parts of Mogul on the go with our native iOS app!

You can download the iOS app from the [App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mogul-personal-crm/id1367307210).&#x20;

One of the primary benefits the mobile app gives you is iOS reminders for Reminders and Important Dates (such as birthdays). It's also just a great mobile experience compared to a mobile website.&#x20;

End-to-End Encryption is support on the app! 🙌

# 👨‍👧‍👦 Groups

Whether it be to separate your work colleagues from your college friends, you can use groups to organize people in ways tailored to you and your workflow

## Creating Groups

## Adding people to groups

There are 3 ways you can add people to a group

1. Clicking the "Add to Group" button on the group page

1. Bulk selecting people on any table and clicking the "Add to Group" button

## Editing a group

To edit a group name and emoji, you can either

1. Editing it directly on the group page

# Reminders

Reminders are a great way to keep yourself accountable and remember to always follow up with people.

## The Reminders Tab

The Reminders tab shows you all the reminders you've created. You can see pending reminders as well as future reminders + edit and mark reminders as complete from this screen.&#x20;

We also show a little badge on the sidebar when you have a pending reminder that is past due.&#x20;

## Email Notifications

If you opt-in for Email notifications for reminders, you will receive emails on the reminder delivery date. They look like this:

If you have End-to-End Encryption enabled on your account, reminders will be more generic and you'll need to click on the link to view the specific data.&#x20;

You can turn Reminder emails on and off within the settings page, as seen below.&#x20;

## iOS Notifications

You can also choose to receive notifications on your iOS device. You can modify these settings through the iOS app settings and clicking "iOS Reminders"


# Keep in Touch Goals

Keep in Touch Goals are one of the first "accountability features" we are introducing. This feature lets you set goals for individual people and helps you see who you are losing touch with.

## How does it work?

Goals is a very light way to visualize how in/out-of-touch you are with certain people.&#x20;

You can set goals for people you need some extra accountability with.&#x20;

Once enabled, you can see your goals on all tables and when viewing an individual person. For all tables, you'll see a new "Goal" column appear that indicates how on track you are to hitting your goals.

Clicking on a goal chip will show you some additional information.

You can even sort by Goals!

Goals also appear on each person's profile. You can see what goal was set and if you are on track to hitting it.

## Enabling the feature

You can enable Goals on both the web and mobile apps by going into settings and scrolling down to "Keep in Touch goals".

## Adding a goal

You can add a goal when creating or editing a person. When enabled, a new "Keep in touch Goal" field will appear automatically.&#x20;

When enabled, a new indicator will appear when scrolling through a list of people.

Goals will also be visible when viewing a person's profile.&#x20;

You can toggle the feature on/off in the settings page by scrolling down to "Keep in Touch Goals"

## Future plans for this feature

Goals is currently a very light feature, but we have plans on making it more robust and helpful.&#x20;

Some things we are exploring are enabling reminders about goals (example: Reminding you when you start to get off-track with a goal or when a goal is missed completely) and even Group goals (still trying to figure out what this looks like).

# CSV Importing

Coming from an existing spreadsheet? We got you covered!

If you want to import via CSV you can do so by going to [**Settings**](https://app.mogulnetworking.com/account) and scrolling down to the "Data Import & Cleaning" and then clicking the "CSV Import (beta)" Get Started button.&#x20;

Mogul currently supports CSV files and we actually allow you to map the columns of your CSV to Mogul fields (including custom fields!)

# iOS Contact Importing

With our iOS app, you can import contacts from your iPhone.&#x20;

Do to this, simply go to the settings page and click "Import iOS Contacts" and select the contacts you want to import.&#x20;

You can also select all of your contacts by clicking "Select All" at the top right of the screen.

We automatically import their name, contact image, phone number, email and notes!

New: When you run an iOS import, you can now enable auto-import for future contacts. This is a 1-way sync that will happen every time you open the app. You can disable this at an time afterwards within the settings

# 👨‍👧‍👦 Google Contact Importing

Coming from an Android phone or use Google Contacts in general? We got you covered!

If you want to import your Google Contacts you can do so by going to [**Settings**](https://app.mogulnetworking.com/account) and scrolling down to the "Data Import & Cleaning" and then clicking the "[Google Contacts Import (beta)](http://localhost:3000/google-importer)" Get Started button.&#x20;

You can select which fields to import from Google as well as map them to the corresponding Mogul fields.&#x20;

# Custom Fields for People

Customize Mogul by adding custom fields for people, making it yours.

## Custom Field Editor

By default, Mogul includes a few fields like "Name", "Email" and "Notes". You can expand on these by adding custom fields to Mogul.&#x20;

You can access the custom fields editor by clicking "[Customize Fields](https://app.mogulnetworking.com/account/editor/people)" at the bottom of any person's profile or by visiting your account settings and clicking "[Customize Fields"](https://app.mogulnetworking.com/account/editor/people) in the "Customization" section.&#x20;

Mogul supports the following field types

1. Text Field - A single line text field.
   * Examples: Company, University, Linkedin URL, Twitter URL...
2. Text Area - A multi-line text field.&#x20;
   * Examples: List of children's names, previous companies, favorite books...
3. Dropdown - Select from a list of options. Great for set categories.&#x20;
   * Example: Categorize people as either "Personal" or "Work"
4. Important Date
   * Examples: Birthdays, Work Anniversaries or even a Death Anniversaries (as a reminder to be mindful during a certain time)

You can add custom fields by scrolling down and clicking the "Add Field" button, as shown below. Once you've made all the changes you want, you can click "Publish Changes".&#x20;

Custom fields will appear on user's profiles and search results.&#x20;

Certain fields cannot be modified or deleted. They will appear with a lock icon.

## Searchable Fields

If you want your custom field to be searchable, simply toggle the "Searchable" toggle on the field. Dates are unable to be made searchable.&#x20;

# Custom Interaction Types

Customize Mogul by adding custom interaction types, making it yours.

## The Custom Interaction Type Editor

By default, Mogul has a few set interaction types such as "Phone Call", "In Person Meeting" to help you categorize your interactions. Very similar to the custom fields editor for people, the custom interaction type editor lets you modify/add interaction types to Mogul. &#x20;

You can access the editor by clicking the "Customize options" button when selecting an interaction type or via the settings page by clicking the "[Customize Interaction Types](https://app.mogulnetworking.com/account/editor/interactions)".&#x20;

You have the ability to modify existing types as well as add new ones through the editor.&#x20;

# Birthdays & Important Dates

One common use case of Mogul is to remember Birthdays and other important dates about people. WIth Mogul's custom fields feature, we can do exactly that!&#x20;

First, add a custom field of type "Important Date" in the [Custom Field Editor](https://app.mogulnetworking.com/account/editor/people) and name it Birthday.&#x20;

You'll notice that for Important Dates, you have the ability to turn on notifications for the event. If you have email notifications enabled, you'll receive notifications via email. If you have iOS notifications, you'll receive those as well.&#x20;

On the day of events, you'll see a new "Important Events" section in the Reminders page that shows you the important events for that day.&#x20;

# Custom Table Columns

By default, Mogul tables have 3 columns active: Name/Avatar, Last Interaction and Notes. By going to the [Settings Page](https://app.mogulnetworking.com/account) and scrolling down to Customization, you can access the table column editor by clicking "Customize Table Columns".

You can add modify and re-order the existing columns here, as well as add any new columns as well. This editor supports custom fields.

The Name/Avatar Field cannot be modified or re-ordered, it will always be the first column in the table

# Merge & Fix

Sometimes you end up with duplicates, especially if you use any of Mogul's importing features.&#x20;

Luckily we've built a sleek way to Merge & Fix duplicates!&#x20;

You can find it by visiting the settings page and scrolling down to "Data Import & Cleaning", "Merge & Fix" and clicking "Scan". You can also [click here](https://app.mogulnetworking.com/duplicate-manager) and go directly.

Mogul scans all of your people and identifies any duplicates. Mogul combines the information as best as it can and shows you what the final combination looks like for each person. If you would like, you can override the recommendations and manually select which information to pull from each duplicate contact.&#x20;

You can Merge contacts individually or you can do a bulk merge by clicking the "Merge All" button at the top right.

# Data Export

We believe that you should be in control of your data, and that means being able to move it off of Mogul at any time.&#x20;

You can export your data at any time by going to the [Settings Page](https://app.mogulnetworking.com/account) and scrolling down to the Data Export & Deletion section and clicking "Export Data". You'll be able to download CSV exports of People, Interactions and Reminders.

# Mixpanel Tracking

Learn more about Mixpanel and how Mogul uses it to improve app usage

## What is Mixpanel?

Mixpanel is an analytics tool that helps app developers make better product decisions by showing how users are using their app. You can read more about Mixpanel [here](https://mixpanel.com/).

## What are you tracking and why?

We only track general usage of the app. This means we track things like "User X created a person", but that is about it. We do not log any sort of data that you are inputting into the app, only that you took an action.&#x20;

This data is super helpful to see how users are using the app and helps us make product decisions. For example, if we launch a new feature (like our new goals feature) and we see that nobody is using it, then we can try to make changes to improve it or remove it completely if we realize nobody uses it even after a few iterations.&#x20;

## Can I opt-out of this?

Yes! You can opt-out of it by going into the [Settings page](http://localhost:3000/account), going to the Privacy section and clicking the toggle to opt-out of tracking.&#x20;

If you are using an ad-blocker, Mixpanel is likely being blocked anyway and there is no need to opt-out of anything :)
